In contrast, untreated bran saw FFA levels spike dramatically—from 4.0% to 68.3% and from 4.6% to 56.8% in long and medium grain bran, respectively—highlighting the effectiveness of microwave stabilization.

Based on these findings, AVAN Microwave has developed a conveyor belt system operating at 2450 MHz specifically for heating and stabilizing wheat bran and raw rice bran. Compared to other stabilization techniques, microwave treatment offers significant advantages: it is not only faster and more energy-efficient, but also better at preserving the nutritional value of the bran.

In further studies, rice bran was subjected to eight different treatments—including hot air oven heating, microwave heating, and ethanol treatment—to assess their effects on stability. Parameters such as rancidity and nutrient retention of rice bran oil were evaluated at intervals of 0 and 30 days, further confirming the superior performance of microwave heating in maintaining bran quality during storage.
